London Theatre Guide
It is now over twenty-three years since Michael Crawford leapt from the chandeliers and into the musical theatre history-books as the original masked man in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera. That momentous event took place in October 1986 and the queues still snake round Her Majesty's Theatre as audiences return to the show time and time again. But from March 9th at the Adelphi Theatre, this Phantom will have a rival in the shape of his older self. Love Never Dies is the sequel to the phenomenally successful Phantom of the Opera with the action transferred across the Atlantic from the Paris Opera to the pleasuredome of Coney Island in New York. Relative unknowns Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess head the cast, with musical theatre stalwart Summer Strallen and Joseph Millson, a regular with the National Theatre, also involved in the show.

Across the Strand at the Savoy Theatre, the curtain will rise on another new musical in the shape of Legally Blonde. Opening on January 12th, this is a musicalised version of the 2001 Reese Witherspoon comedy that told the story of a dizzy blonde, rejected by her snobbish boyfriend, who proves herself to have a sharp lawyer's mind and to be the equal of any redhead or brunette. The show had a respectable run on Broadway a couple of years ago and leading the cast in this production is the chirpy Sheridan Smith, probably best known for the BBC's raucous teen comedy Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps Please. The supporting company includes ex Dr. Who Peter Davison and Duncan James, formerly of the band Blue.

The choice of venues that welcome hen and stag parties is huge, and events cater for all tastes....
