Stag 'n' Hen Nights In London

Print PDF

What To Do ?

The choice of venues that welcome stag and hen nights in london  is huge, and events cater for all tastes. From firing pellets of paint at one another to playing pool in a knock-out competition and not forgetting the pre-nuptial mainstay of watching the opposite sex take their clothes off.

You can drive around , fly around or party on a riverboat and so much more. This is all a long way from medieval times when the young bridegroom and his friends would cause havoc after hours of drinking mead or some such liquor (not too much change there then)

Now the girls can get in on the act as well, not wishing to miss out on any fun. groups can have lessons in tango dancing, preparing sexy food, or just relaxing pool-side whilst nails are structured or tans are topped up

Origins

The origins of this tradition are a little vague, the little evidence we do have seems to suggest that they were originally called 'bachelor dinners' or 'stag parties'. Research suggests they started way back in 5th century Sparta, where military comrades would feast and toast one another on the eve of a friend’s wedding. There he would say goodbye to the carefree days of bachelorhood and swear continued allegiance to his comrades.

One story suggests that the idea of a hen night came about as a result of one very disapproving Dutchman and the well meaning friends of his daughter. The man's resolve was tested, allegedly, when his daughter asked for permission to marry a poor miller, a suitor of great disappointment to the father by all accounts. The answer was NO, to which the girl's friends gathered on her doorstep, carrying gifts and crafts, to try and make up the difference between the miller's possessions and the angry father's hoped-for dowry. The shortfall was made up, the permission was granted, the marriage went ahead... and the concept of the hen night was born (allegedly).
